As you approach them the electrical towers seem to lose reality in some way; the size is unexpected, and the proportions seem askew. When I saw the chair and hubcap, I thought they seemed like miniatures. I needed to make my way through the underbrush to stand next to it.
Behind the Curtain
Around the corner. Japan.
Most nights, after 3 or 4 am, we would go through the back streets of wherever we were staying and look at what things are like without the people. These streets reminded me of the last scene of “On the Beach,” from the 60’s or so. They left me feeling very despondent and alone. The end of the movie went through my head over and over.
Control Shed at Peter's Dam
This is the control shed for the dam, formerly a source of water for farmers and fruit tree orchards in Orange County. Now part of a wildlife sanctuary. After flying down from the western forests in British Columbia the brightness makes it difficult to even see.

A Small Landscape Through the Motel Window.
I am often fascinated by the views out of motels, especially the back windows. Often they are drastically different from the main entrance view. Here there is a complexity of patterns that hold it together, with colouring that is quiet and lightly visible. North of Tonopah, NV.
On the drive to Yakima.
On the drive through Washington State, heading for Yakima, we passed by many blue houses which blended in with the skies.
Fence along the Hudson River.
The fence separates the picnic area for workers at the paper mill along the Hudson River. Just below is the falls that inspired the scene in The Last of the Mohegans. Even this early in the morning, just a few minutes after sunrise, the town is awake with lots of traffic crossing the small bridge from one side of the Hudson to the other. The cold was overwhelming, with the added dampness of the river fog coming and going, seemingly to hide from the morning sun. ©2022, all rights reserved. Jim Roche
